The Rational Composition Of Concepts

PRECEDENT:  "Tell me of the god On, which is and never knew beginning." (Plato, Timaeus).

"... and he (Pharaoh) gave him (Joseph) Aseneth, the daughter of Petephres, priest of Heliopolis, to wife."  (Genesis 41: 45 LXX).  "... and On, which is Heliopolis."*  (Exodus 1:11).

According to the Masonic Encyclopedia (masonicshop.com), "On is a significant word in Royal Arch Masonry, and has been generally explained as being the name by which Jehovah was worshiped among the Egyptians.  As this has been denied and the word asserted to be only the name of a city in Egypt, it is proper that some inquiry should be made into the authorities on the subject.  The first mention of On in the Bible is in the history of Joseph, to whom Pharaoh gave "to wife Asenath, the daughter of Potipherah, priest of On ...."  The investigation of modern Egyptologists have shown that this is an error.  On was the name of a city where the sun-god was worshiped, but On was not the name of that god...."

According to the Jadeist, the above is partially false.  The Ennead was a company of gods worshiped at Heliopolis: Atum; his offspring Shu and Tefnut; their progeny Geb and Nut; and their children Osiris, Isis, Set, and Nephthys.   Osiris was also known as Un - Nefer, "Osiris the good (variously 'the beautiful' or 'the perfect') being".  In Exodus 3:14 (LXX), God "spoke to Moses, saying, I am THE BEING (Ὤν, On)...."  Thus, it is confirmed that On (variously 'Un', 'An' and 'In') is also the name of an Egyptian God  worshiped in Heliopolis.

Asserting that the Hebrews built On is like saying they built a city named after the God itself; just as Pithom was built for the God Tem.  And the Jadeists have professed and proved that the LXX is the source of Hebrew scripture, and not vice versa!

*  If this was derived from a Hebrew source, the correct wording would have been  "Beth-Shemesh (a Hebrew  translation), which is Heliopolis.", or "On, which is Beth-Shemesh, which is Heliopolis."!

The God 'ON' (Egyptian 'Iunu') In Hieroglyphs!

The God ON represented as a pillar (as Osiris was represented as a pillar, the Djet). Jacob set up a pillar in the place where God spoke to him (Gen. 35:14-15). In the LXX, Bethel (House of God) was called Beth-ON (Hosea 12:4)!
